1 How did you study? and for how long? 2 What was your best score? 3 Which term was the most interesting or surprising to you? That's all folks! Dear Zoologists,
This 10 minute video slide lecture very clearly lays out the characteristics of arthropods and why we should care about them. In your post please list the arthropod characteristics (from the list below) that humans share and a short explanation of 'what makes you say that'. Bilateral Symmetry Cephalization Segmentation Tagmatization Jounted Appendages Exoskeleton And then, watch the 'Who cares?' section and select and state the reason that you find most compelling. Thank you! (Oh, by the way, there will be a surprise quiz on those 6 terms on Tuesday the 11th - take notes if it helps you to learn them!) Resources Arguing Against Lead Shot: Human Health Risks from Lead Shot Humane Society's Stance Eagles' Story Resources Arguing For Lead Shot: Winona Post News article about the repeal of the ban on lead shot. NRA Stance Comparative Study by Ammunition Specialist Pricing Estimates at Cabella's Sporting Goods Steel Shot (average, there are many sizes and weights) $1.60/lb Lead Shot (average, there are many sizes and weights) $1.60/lb Included in the legislation and environmental policy overturned early in this administration's tenure, you will find a bit about lead shot. I was curious about this, having studied the effects of lead shot on waterfowl in Northern Wisconsin in the late 1970's. I have vivid memories of piled up dead ducks, swans, and eagles.
With curiosity, and an attempt at an open mind, I have gathered the resources above. It was easier to find resources against lead shot than for lead shot. When I contacted the legislator's office, staff said that the main reason for his repeal of the ban was due to the higher cost of the non-lead ammunition. They stated that the cost difference limits the ability of the poor and elderly to buy sufficient ammunition. For next Tuesday's discussion, please skim all resources - the ammunition study has a summary at the end. Then choose one AGAINST and one FOR - that you feel make the best argument(s). The ammo comparison and Cabella's prices are NOT resources. Info, but not argument. In your post: 1 Identify the resources selected and summarize their arguments. 2 Students will use these summaries for our discussion and decision statement on Tuesday. This work is necessary for collaboration on Tuesday, March 21. Hello Zoologists! We have a stretched out schedule due to the nature of educational policy. We can complain, but what does that get us? Let's make the best of it!
Please choose one of the linked resources in the Sea Star Dissection Document and analyze it using a thinking routine. This will support your own thinking and learning and also provide some interesting discussion with your peers. Here's the deal - in your post: 1 Identify the resource that you are analyzing/investigating. 2 Use a thinking routine of your choice to analyze the information in the resource. (You could use a See, Think, Wonder; or Connect, Extend, Challenge; or Think, Puzzle, Explore - or any other that you like to use to focus your thinking.) Thank you! I look forward to reading your thoughts! k Technology Challenge! Open this pdf of the bedrock map and enlarge/manipulate it until you can find Sheboygan County and identify our 2 bedrock groups.
You will need to notice the color and letter code and then work your way over to the left to read the descriptions and see the timeline. RESEARCH Choose one of the two bedrock types and do a little more research. What kinds of fossils are there? How was the rock originally deposited? Was Wisconsin terrestrial or marine at the time? Share your new information and insights. CONNECT How does your new learning connect to our study of mollusks? and especially to our JigSaw or Shell Biography Lab? CHALLENGE Find out 'where' Wisconsin was during the time your bedrock was deposited. PoL Thinking and Habits Post

Dear Zoologists,
This video shows us many aspects of the clam's life in just under 2 minutes! Please watch and then make connections between the clam and other invertebrates that we have studied. Challenge yourself to make 3 descriptive connections. You may focus on the mechanisms for feeding, sensing the environment, avoiding predators, habitat or . . . ? Thanks! (more amazing invertebrates!) Dear Zoologists,
Here is a collection of three short videos about cephalopod camouflage. Please enjoy watching them. 1 Hide in Plain Site 2 Mimic Octopus 3 Cephalopod Camo - 4 Aspects Respond by identifying specific kinds of camouflage and purposes for camouflage presented in each video. This is a short and easy home learning! Thank you! ENJOY! These animals are amazing. This week's home learning is all about the quizlet. Use this Squid Anatomy Quizlet to study the terms that we talked about and color coded in class. Try out the different games or flashcards or quiz options. Please post this evidence of your independent study: 1 Time spent reviewing the vocabulary. (Example: 25 minutes after school on Friday.) 2 Methods? (Try at least two - for example 'took the quiz 3 times and went through the flashcards twice'.) 3 Choose three terms that you think apply to the most animals. Which have we seen and will we continue to see? Why do you think that they are so 'common'? 4 Choose 1 term that you think is the most specific to the squid. Why is this term only applicable to squid? Why don't humans have it? Thank you in advance for your thinking! This work is due before class time on Tuesday, January 31. |
